HCTV Unsung Hero

Hastings is full of good people doing good things. The Unsung Hero award is just our little recognition for those who consistently put others before themselves. It can be a single incident of saving someone's life, or years of volunteering to make sure others are taken care of. They all do it without one “look at me.” You can look at them in each of our newscasts when we spring the surprise and hear from those closest to the deserving Unsung Hero (CH 14 schedule).

Congratulations to this Week’s Unsung Hero:  Marty Cullen

The Channel 14 Unsung Hero Crew headed out to a blood drive at SEAS Catholic Church to catch an unsuspecting Marty Cullen.

Nominator Faith Siebenaler asked Marty if she would head up last year’s drive, and this woman of faith (there’s a pun in there somewhere) accepted the challenge.  Faith says Marty is a woman that leaves no stone unturned in her desire to do a credible job.

Marty is a “people person.”  Her husband says they go into the grocery store for a half hour shopping trip and come out about an hour and a half later.  He says she will also go up to every person in uniform, soldier, fireman, policeman, to say, “thank you for your service.”

She’s a sweetheart and was one of the most animated award winners we’ve ever had.  Marty Cullen asked us to remind everyone to give blood.  She says it’s a perfect example of people helping people. We think this week’s Unsung Hero is a pretty good example of that as well.
